Podology Practice

Podoogy is a study that aims to prevent and treat complaints and impairment in the foot. As a podologist I treat patients with foot injuries or foot related complaints that are the result of the malfunctioning of the feet (e.g.; knee, hip or back complaints). Usually a patient comes to a podologist after a referral by a physician or pedicure, however a referral is not mandatory. As a podologist I take an anamnesis and preform an elaborate podological examination. After presenting my diagnostic findings, I will offer a therapy plan if necessary. The therapy plan can consist of corrective or protective techniques, like orthosis and/or insole corrections. The profession of a podiatrist goes substantially further than that of a pedicure.

Because podology is an unprotected profession, meaning that everyone can call himself or herself a podologist, there is a governing institution in the Netherlands for podology call “Stichting Loop”. This protects and guarantees the quality of podology. Only podologists that have completed the required the education are considered for membership. For this reason many insurers completely or partially reimburse a visit to a registrated podologist.
